During his visit, Mr. El Hafidi inquired about the progress of preparations for the commissioning tests of the first stage, which consists of the realization of a new desalination plant with a production capacity of 26,000 m3 / d from coastal drilling. The commissioning of the station, whose cost is 370 MDH, is scheduled before the end of 2021.
This project will increase the production capacity of drinking water to 60,000 m3 /d and thus meet the drinking water needs of the inhabitants of the cities of Laayoune and El Marsa as well as the centers Foum El Oued and Tarouma beyond the horizon 2035.
ONEE has also scheduled the completion of the second stage of the said project which consists of a direct intake of sea water on a linear of 2 km and an adaptation of the pre-treatment system to strengthen the supply of raw water to the desalination plant. With a cost of 300 MDH, the completion of work on this tranche is scheduled before the end of 2023.
