At a time when nobody questions human rights situation in our southern provinces, Morocco confidently continues the democratic forward march for  all Moroccans

Morocco has a "very positive" record in the region when it comes to human rights, Moroccan Ambassador to South Africa Youssef Amrani said on Tuesday.

“Human dignity is not a simple ambition or motto, nor a pious wish, but it is indeed a constant and unchanging commitment of a Kingdom and a Nation linked by interdependencies of choice, commitments of heart and common destinies ”, said Mr. Amrani in a new viedo which deals with human rights situation in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
This is the 5th video sequence in a series of eight thematic videos launched by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Pretoria as part of communication campaign entitled “between myths and realities: understanding the regional dispute around the Sahara ”.
South African public opinion has seen that the Moroccan realities are not those incessantly repeated by perfidious speeches which are based only on denial and ignorance, underlined Mr. Amrani.
“The sovereign steps taken by Morocco set up the human dimension as an undisputed priority with no political agenda, their sole ambition and requirements are the well-being and development of the citizen with the sole perspective of meeting and fulfilling the will of the people.", he added.
“At a time when some prefer accusing, the human rights situation in our southern provinces, Morocco continues with confidence, serenity and responsibility the march forward. a democratic and eminently humanist impetus which is blooming throughout the national territory and for the benefit of all Moroccan citizens ”, continued the diplomat.
The reforms undertaken by the Kingdom, widely praised by the international community, are intrinsic substance of consistency of choice and relevance of action, he noted.
He recalled  that civil liberties of expression, the press, assembly, of association as well as gender equality are fully enshrined in the Moroccan Constitution and are reflected in the daily lives of Moroccan Citizen in all political, economic, social and cultural fields, respect for freedoms is not only guaranteed and protected, it is deepened and strengthened”, he maintained, noting that for many years, important measures, actions and reforms have been undertaken in this direction.
The United Nations Human Rights Committee has ranked Morocco among the top five countries to have successfully implemented United Nations recommendations on the protection of human rights, said Amrani.
“It is therefore completely unfounded that Morocco is abusing human rights whether in the southern provinces or elsewhere,” he continued.
Mr. Amrani said that the Kingdom is at the forefront of international standards, continuously and relentlessly consolidating the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and civil liberties on the all of its territory without exception.
He said that the Kingdom has sent an invitation to all the special rapporteurs of the Human Rights Council to visit Morocco and its Saharan provinces.“We have hosted without restrictions 12 of these special procedures, which were attended by journalists, experts, activists and other relevant stakeholders,” he said.
“Morocco has nothing to hide and we have no complexes, taboos or lessons to be learned on human rights issues. We have strengthened our instruments through the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) with extended investigative and control powers, ”he insisted.
It is well known that the CNDH is in full compliance with the Paris principles and international standards adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993, he said.
The UN Security Council hailed the role of the CNDH regional commissions in Laâyoune and Dakhla and Morocco's interaction with the mechanisms of the United Nations Human Rights Council, welcomed the ambassador.
The allegations of a so-called violation of human rights by Morocco engage and question probity, seriousness and responsibility of a false word disconnected from the realities on the ground, he said.
