An enlarged autonomy in the southern provinces within the Moroccan sovereignty "opens a new page in the History of Morocco", said here Tuesday President of the Royal Advisory Council for Sahrawi Affairs (CORCAS), Khali Hanna Ould Er-Rachid.

Speaking of a Sahrawi State is "absurd and delirious », for a State needs a territory, a people and sovereignty and the « Polisario » lacks all these elements, Ould Er-Rachid told the TVM "Hiwar" talk show on Tuesday.

The southern provinces of the north African kingdom, known as the Sahara, are object of a dispute triggered by the claim of the Algeria-backed "Polisario" movement to separate the provinces from Morocco that retrieved them in 1975 under the Madrid accords.

On the referendum in the Sahara, Ould Er-Rachid said this option to settle the dispute cannot be implemented without the participation of all the Sahrawis both living inside and outside Morocco.

He said Algeria is claiming it is not concerned by the Sahara issue, asking it to act so as to help the Sahrawis living in the Tindouf camps, south-west Algeria to go back home and live in an enlarged autonomy.

“Polisario” lured in the mid-seventies through false propaganda thousands of Sahrawis out of the provinces into the Tindouf camps to support its separation claims.

Er-Rachid said autonomy is the best way to achieve self-rule, for the Sahrawis would have renounced separatism and would return to the homeland, adding the Corcas has been set up to reach « a lasting reconciliation with the Sahrawis to allow them adopt the royal project on autonomy”, as well as setting dialog with all Sahrawis.
