The Security Council adopted at its 5773rd meeting, on 31 October 2007 resolution (1783) about the future of direct negotiations concerning the Moroccan Sahara .there is no doubt that the latest resolution is simply a pure confirmation to the willingness of the security council of the united nations to assist the parties concerned to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution .

Again this resolution does not give much margin to both Algeria and The Polisario to manoeuver as they both do not seem to agree explicitly with the UN and the international community and their conviction that after over 30 years of dispute  the only way to solve such dispute is through direct negotiations , taking into consideration efforts made basically by Morocco since the presentation to the secretary general of its proposal aiming at providing Sahraouis with a substantial autonomy within the Moroccan sovereignty, such proposal was seen by the most influential international capitals as an advanced form of self-determination .

It is worth mentioning the main paragraphs of the resolution that insist on the necessity of continuing to cooperate fully with the UN, the need for full respect of the military agreements reached with MINORSO, the importance of showing the political will to engage in substantive negotiations, and the success of negotiations, taking into account efforts made since 2006 and developments of the last months .

Here are the main paragraphs of the resolution  :

•Reiterating its call upon the parties and States of the region to continue to
cooperate fully with the United Nations and with each other to end the current
impasse and to achieve progress towards a political solution,

•Reaffirms the need for full respect of the military agreements reached
with MINURSO with regard to the ceasefire;

•Calls upon the parties to continue to show political will and work in an
atmosphere propitious for dialogue in order to engage in substantive negotiations,
thus ensuring implementation of resolution 1754 and the success of negotiations;

•Calls upon the parties to continue negotiations under the auspices of the
Secretary-General without preconditions and in good faith, taking into account the
efforts made since 2006 and developments of the last months, with a view to
achieving a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution

•Calls on Member States to consider voluntary contributions to fund
Confidence Building Measures that allow for increased contact between separated
family members, especially family unification visits, as well as for other confidence
