The Moroccan ambassador, and permanent representative to the United Nations Mr El Mustapha Sahel  underlined that  the Kingdom of Morocco welcomed with satisfaction the new resolution (1783) adopted earlier by the United Nations security council on the Sahara issue .

The Moroccan diplomat made it clear that “this new resolution consecrates the negotiation process, which aims at reaching a negotiated political settlement to this artificial dispute that has lasted too long”. He added “The security council in this resolution requests the parties to engage in such substantial negotiations, which consolidates the position that Morocco defended since the beginning of the negotiation process in June 2007”.

Mr Sahel has revealed “ the efforts made by Morocco, described as “serious and credible» by the security council resolution1754, which was adopted the 30th of last April, have again been underlined by the security council on the of adoption of this new resolution”.

“while insisting on the “efforts deployed since 2006” the security council incontestably  refers to the efforts deployed by Morocco and to  the Moroccan  autonomy initiative, which has been elaborated . ( as it is worth reminding it) in the framework of  a large national consultation process, which involves, in particular the Sahara region populations, this process has spread out throughout the year 2006.”declared the Moroccan diplomat.

He indicated that “ this resolution constitutes a new political signal, as to the  support of  the Moroccan initiative by the international community, and the security council” he added “ we sincerely wish, that this new opportunity , as an additional signal of the international community towards the persistence of this artificial dispute, be seized by the other parties, in order to put an end to this dispute, which hampers seriously the aspirations of the region states, and the edification of a united and prosperous Maghreb”

The security council of the United Nations has adopted on Wednesday a resolution on Sahara, it reiterated its support to the process of negotiations, and greeted, again the serious and credible efforts deployed by Morocco in order to reach a final settlement to this dispute .
