The Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (Corcas), Khalihenna Ould Errachid, met on Thursday, January 30, 2020, with Jaime Quintana Leal, Speaker of the Chilean Senate who is currently carrying out a visit to Morocco including Laayoune at the head of a large delegation.

CORCAS chief exchanged with his Chilean host regional and international developments related to the Sahara issue, in particular regarding the economic, diplomatic and cultural dynamics experienced by the southern provinces.

This momentum has aroused an interest on continental and international levels which reinforces the serious Moroccan efforts in favor of a realistic and effective solution which is autonomy, to put an end to the conflict

In this regard, Mr. Ould Errachid said that the credibility of this solution lies in the fact that it is Sahrawis themselves who conceived it through their Council which represents all tribes

He also welcomed the position of the Chilean Senate which adopted in January 2018 a resolution that supports the autonomy initiative, as well as the joint press release of June 2019, in which the Chilean Republic reaffirms its support for the action and the serious efforts of Morocco as well as its autonomy initiative in the Sahara.
