Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, the EU and Cooperation Arancha González Layas reiterated, on Friday in Rabat, the clear, precise and firm position of her country over the Moroccan Sahara issue, stressing that Madrid defends the centrality of the United Nations in the search for a solution to this dispute.

During a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita, González Layas, who is on a working visit to Morocco, affirmed that the position of Spain on the Sahara issue is "the position of a state that is not dependent on changes of governments or coalitions".

In this regard, the Spanish official, who was speaking after her talks with Bourita, reaffirmed the position expressed by the Head of the Spanish government Perdo Sanchez at the UN General Assembly and in which he no longer raised the question of self-determination.

The Spanish official added that her country defends the centrality of the United Nations in the search for a solution to this regional dispute within the framework of the relevant UNSC resolutions.

She also expressed Madrid's support for efforts by United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to find a solution to this conflict.
