President of the Royal advisory Council for Saharan affairs (Corcas), Khali Hanna Ould Er-Rachid stressed the council will enable to transparently, efficiently and credibly implement the policy of King Mohammed VI regarding the southern provinces of the kingdom.


The participative policy on local affairs is to help the youth feel self-confident and trusting in the future, Khali Hanna told on Wednesday the 2M TV, adding the autonomy proposal for the Sahara in the framework of Moroccan sovereignty is a solution suiting the Sahrawis.

The autonomy is also "the best answer to Polisario, which is trying to proclaim itself as the sole representative of the Sahrawis, while the international community wants to dealt with the concerned regarding their adherence to autonomy."

The separatist “Polisario” movement, based in south-west Algeria, has been claiming the separation of the Moroccan southern provinces from the motherland, since 1975 when Morocco retrieved the provinces from Spanish rule under the Madrid accords.

For his part, Corcas Secretary General, Malaiinaine Ben Khali Hanna Malaiinaine, said King Mohammed VI has incepted the first step for a political and negotiated solution to the Sahara issue - as called for by the UNO, through his decision to give a new impetus to the Council.

The initiative "offer to all the populations of the southern provinces the opportunity to freely express their viewpoints and present their proposals on the future of the region in the framework of the autonomy proposed by the Sovereign", Malaiinaine told on Wednesday "Al-Arabia" TV.

Autonomy, which empower the provinces inhabitants run their affairs, is a framework to share proposals and ideas to find ways to live in entente and preserve territorial unity, he went on to say.

The Corcas chief said the body is open to “all the sons of the southern provinces, including ‘Polisario’ leaders, in case they present constructive proposals beneficial to all the inhabitants of the region.”

King Mohammed VI appointed last Saturday Khali Hanna and Malaiinaine, Corcas president and Secretary General, respectively.

The council, including tribe Chioukh, elected representatives and civil society personalities, is a framework of consultation that assists the king in all the issues related to defending the kingdom’s territorial integrity and national unity, promote economic and social development of the southern provinces and preserve their cultural identity.
