Speaking at a press conference at the end of the CORCAS last extraordinary meeting, held Monday and Tuesday in Rabat, he added that "Algeria has adopted a contradictory stance over the Sahara conflict."
"On the one hand, Algeria claims that it is not concerned by this conflict and, on the other hand, this country offers diplomatic and political assistance to the Polisario, which goes through a severe political crisis," CORCAS chairman explained.
Morocco has just finalized a proposal that will be submitted to the United Nations as a solution to the Sahara dispute that erupted in the mid-Seventies due to the claim of the Algeria-backed "Polisario" to separate the Moroccan Southern Provinces, known as the Sahara, retrieved at the time from Spain under the Madrid accords.
Ould Rachid also noted that the presence of the Polisario in a position where borders of Mali, Mauritanian and Algerian meet, constitutes a serious problem, regarding the fact that “this area is subjected to no law.”
CORCAS SG highlighted that the European Union backs the principle of autonomy as the only solution that can spare Europe and Africa the dangers of instability.
