The UNGA supports the process of negotiations initiated by resolution 1754 (2007) and supported by resolutions 1783 (2007), 1813 (2008), 1871 (2009), 1920 (2010), 1979 (2011), 2044 (2012), 2099 (2013) and 2152 (2014) of the Security Council in order to achieve a just, lasting and mutually acceptable “political solution”, and commends the efforts made in this regard, said the resolution.

 The text calls, mainly, on the states of the region to fully cooperate with the efforts made under the auspices of the UN and with each other in the search for a mutually acceptable political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

 The resolution also calls on the parties to continue to show political will and work in an atmosphere propitious for dialogue in order to enter, in good faith and without preconditions, into a more intensive phase of negotiations, noting the efforts and developments made since 2006, ensuring the implementation of the above-mentioned resolutions of the UN Security Council.

 The General Assembly of the United Nations supports the approach of the Security Council since the adoption of resolution 1754 (2007), referring to the submission of Morocco’s autonomy initiative for the Sahara region, which was welcomed by the Council and the entire international community as a serious and credible proposal for a final settlement of the regional dispute over the Sahara.

 By supporting the UNSC resolutions, including resolution 2152 (April 2014), the UNGA accepts the immutable parameters as set by the UNSC for a final solution to this problem which the resolution terms as “dispute”.

 By adopting this new resolution, the UNGA joins the UNSC in its call on other parties, which remain hostage of a frozen and extremist position, to show the necessary political will to contribute to the political solution of compromise as advocated by the UN, according to observers.
