Libya has welcomed efforts made by Morocco to reach “a political, negotiated, consensual and final solution to the Sahara issue”.

A joint statement released Tuesday, after the visit to the Kingdom of the president of the Libyan ministers’ Council , Ali Zeidan , said Libyan support to Moroccan efforts in this direction.

" Recognizing the historical context of the Sahara , and the negative role played by the former regime and its exploitation of this issue, the Libyan side reiterated its support to UN efforts to find a political, negotiated , consensual and final settlement to the Sahara issue , which constitutes an obstacle to the revitalization of the joint Maghreb action, " the joint statement said.

In this regard , the two sides stressed the need to eliminate obstacles in front of the bodies and institutions of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU ), which is " an irreversible choice , an economic priority and security need to guarantee the emergence of a new order based on Maghreb integration and complementarity between the five countries , as advocated by HM King Mohammed VI , " the text says.

In addition, the two sides expressed their satisfaction over the restructuring of the Community of Sahel and Sahara to meet the pressing demands of its members to make a real space for dialogue and solidarity. The objective is to support the efforts of developing and consolidating peace and security in the Sahel-Saharan region, the joint statement added .

On the other hand, the Libyan side welcomed the holding in Morocco of the meeting of the Regional Ministerial Conference on Border Security , due in Rabat in November , with the participation of more members .
