The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Khalihenna Ould Errachid, held talks took Thursday, December 13, with Risto Piipponen, Director General of Africa and the Middle East, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic Finland, who was accompanied by Christina Harttila, Ambassador of Finland in Morocco.


The Finnish official visiting Morocco in the framework of the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Friends of Syria, which was held in Marrakech, Wednesday, tackled with the Corcas chairman, the latest developments in the Sahara, in the context of the crisis in the Sahel region, including terrorist threats and the lack of security that requires international mobilization to identify and treat this crisis.

In this regard, Khalihenna Ould Errachid said the international community should find a rapid and definitive solution the Sahara conflict, which is currently open to the risk of tension threatening the regional security.

This risk also threatens to put the region and the international environment in the spiral of chaos and political turmoil due to the convergence of interests and separatist terrorist groups.

At the same time, Morocco offers a middle and just solution through autonomy to end the agony experienced by Sahrawis detained in the Tindouf camps on Algerian territory, a solution that will allow them to live in peace in the Sahara region under Moroccan sovereignty.

For his part, Risto Piipponen, said that his country supports the efforts by the United Nations in favor of a political solution mutually acceptable to the parties to the conflict, adding that this will strengthen the peace and security in the Sahara and Sahel region.

This meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Council, Dr Maouelainin Ben Khalihanna Maoulainin and Moulay Ahmed Mghizlat, Council member.
