Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, met on Friday at the Council’s headquarters a delegation from the Colombian parliament on a working visit to Morocco June 19-25.

Mr Khalihenna Ould Errachid spoke with the delegation, chaired by Mr. Orlando Alfonso Clavijo, about the history of the conflict and the latest developments of the Sahara issue, in light of the latest Security Council Resolution number 1979, which confirmed the gains accumulated in recent years by the Kingdom, through the presentation by Morocco of the autonomy initiative, as a just and definitive solution to the conflict, and the very advanced process of the protection and development of human rights initiated in all regions of Morocco headed by the southern provinces.

Corcas chairman presented to his guests a summary of the rounds of informal talks, particularly the 7th round, held recently in Manhasset at the beginning of this month. This round was marked by a reaffirmation of the contents of the last resolution, namely the importance of the involvement of Sahrawi people in the search for final solution to the Sahara issue, as Polisario does not represent the Sahrawi people, on the one hand and secondly, Sahrawis sequestered in Tindouf camps not identified yet, because of the refusal of Algeria and Polisario.

Concerning the history of the conflict, Mr. Khalihenna said that the process of decolonization of Morocco, which underwent two colonial powers, Spain to the north and south, France in the center and an international zone in Tangier, has gone through several historical stages, which ended with the recovery of the Saharan provinces in 1975, after the departure of the Spanish army, with the Green March attended by all Moroccans.

The two sides discussed also bilateral relations between Morocco and Colombia and means to deepen and develop them in all areas.

The Colombian parliamentary delegation was composed of Mr. Orlando Alfonso Clavijo, member of the Colombian Conservative Party (ruling coalition, Librado Garcia, member of National Union Party (opposition) and Benjamin Nino, rapporteur of the Territorial Organization Commission at the House of Representatives.

Corcas chairman was joined at the meeting by the Secretary General of the Council, Dr Maouelainin Benkhalihenna Maouelainin, El Moussaoui Khaddad, Vice-Chairman and Moulay Ahmed Mghizlate, Corcas member.
