The meeting tackled the latest developments of the Sahara issue, starting with the liquidation of the French and Spanish colonial powers in Morocco in successive stages: the North, center and Tangier in 1956, Tan-Tan and Tarfaya in 1958, Sidi Ifni in 1969, and the Sahara in 1975, leading to the process of negotiations which began in 2007 thanks to the Moroccan initiative for the settlement of the conflict by granting autonomy to the Sahara region, which is the utmost form of self-determination.
Mr. Stefano Stefani, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee praised the continued UN negotiations between the parties to the conflict in search of a just and agreed solution to the Sahara issue.

The Italian deputy called upon the international community, especially the authorities in his country, to provide greater support to the settlement process, spare the region the dangers of terrorism and instability and security regionally and internationally.
The meeting was attended by the Council’s Secretary General, Dr. Maouelainin Bnkhalihna Maouelainin, Vice-President, Mr. Khaddad Moussaoui, and Council member Moulay Ahmed Mghaizlat.
