Macedonian Secretary of State for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Abdulkader Memedi, reaffirmed, Monday in Rabat, his country's support for Morocco's project to grant substantial autonomy to its southern provinces, the Sahara, within the Kingdom's sovereignty.
Following a meeting with Secretary of State for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Latifa Akharbach, the Macedonian official reiterated, in a statement to the press, the support of his country to the Moroccan autonomy initiative, describing the proposal as "interesting."
He said the Moroccan initiative "demonstrates the willingness of the Kingdom to reach a final solution to this issue in order to achieve peace and security in the region.”
Memedi also called on all the parties to “resume negotiations “under the aegis of the United Nations to put an end to this conflict.
President of the Union of the Comoros, Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi, reaffirmed his country's support for the autonomy initiative as a final solution to the Sahara issue, deeming that the future "belongs" to this proposal.
In general, the international community fully supports Morocco's stance, he told channel TV 2M, adding that he possesses information that some African countries which were not in favour of this option are beginning to change their attitudes.
"We believe that the future belongs to this stance which we have backed and will always back," he underlined at the end of a private visit to the Kingdom.
Sambi added that Arabs should, from time to time, open a dialogue, calling upon the Arab League to give far more importance to this issue which should not linger.
He deemed that the situation in some Arab countries urges real reforms, noting that Morocco could set the example in this matter.
