"This is an additional proof of using a purely humanitarian operation for political purposes and frustrating the legitimate expectations and strong aspirations of the program's beneficiaries by the same parties", said Morocco's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohammed Loulichki before the United Nations' 3rd Committee.
The High Commissioner for Refugees (HCR) had voiced, in September, its "great disappointment" after the polisario barred twenty Moroccan beneficiaries access to the Tindouf camps.
"Algeria's representative has just lamented the vulnerability and tragic situation of the Tindouf camps population and deplored the lack of a solution for 35 years," Loulichki underlined.
The Algerian diplomat voiced his country's intention to contribute to "finding a solution to the Sahara issue, in conformity with the Security Council resolutions. However, he has not told us how his country will give concrete substance to its commitment", Loulichki noted.
Loulichki recalled that UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy Christopher Ross will shortly organize an informal meeting with Algeria's participation, and voiced hope that Algeria "will adopt a constructive position and positively contribute to the settlement of the issue".
