The Peace Caravan supporting autonomy project in the Sahara, which came from Brussels to Lagouira, stopped Thursday night in Laayoune, with the aim to sensitize international public opinion on the credibility of the autonomy plan in the Sahara and the Moroccanity of the Southern Provinces.



Upon its arrival, the Peace Caravan was warmly greeted on the Mechouar Square by the inhabitants of the city of Laayoune, who  came to express their unconditional support to this initiative reflecting the commitment of all Moroccans to the territorial unit.

The caravan consists of participants from different nationalities, including Algerian, Tunisian, Iraqi, Palestinian, French, Belgian and Italian nationals in addition toMoroccans residing in Europe.

The 350 participants in the Caravan, a symbolic number that refers to the 350 000 participants in the Green March inquired about the development achieved in the of Laayoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra Region thanks to efforts by local authorities, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed IV.

Waving national flags and portraits of the Sovereign, the participants reiterated at their rally at Palais des congrès, slogans such as "The Sahara is Moroccan and will remain Moroccan, " "No to Separation" and "Yes to Autonomy plan. "

They also called for lifting the blockade imposed on the sequestered peple in Tindouf camps and allowing them to return to the motherland to contribute actively in the implementation of the autonomy proposal to end the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Zahra Haidara, President of the Sahrawi Association Supporting Autonomy Plan, initiator of the Caravan, denounced the ordeal endured for over three decades by the sequestered people in Tindouf camps, where conditions of life are lacking, noting that Algeria is responsible for this suffering.

On the other hand, participants from foreign countries expressed their support for autonomy in the southern provinces, calling for immediate release of Sahrawi Moroccans sequestered in the camps.

In addition, they welcomed the hospitality and warm reception of their caravan in the various points and cities on their way to Lagouira.

The Caravan, organized under the banner "Yes to autonomy in the Sahara" will continue to Lagouira through the towns of Dakhla and Boujdour.

The Peace Caravan supporting autonomy project crossed, after its departure from Brussels, the cities of Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Barcelona, Madrid and Algeciras, Tangier, Rabat, Marrakech, Agadir, Tan Tan Guelmim and Tarfaya before arriving Thursday in Laayoune.
