Chairman of the European People's Party: Moroccan proposal "good and brave"

The chairman of the Royal Consultative Council for Saharan Affairs, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid received Tuesday at the Council headquarters in Rabat, a delegation of MEPs, led by Mr Joseph Daul, Chairman of the European People's Party (EPP) at the European Parliament who is paying his first visit to Morocco.



Mr. Joseph stated that the Moroccan proposal to grant autonomy to the Sahara is "good and brave."

He said in a statement to the press after his meeting with the Council chairman that "the proposal is being defended at the European level (...) it is a good proposal; I find it brave."

The meeting was devoted to the "advanced status" of Morocco with the European Union, and ways to strengthen this relationship in terms of support of Morocco's efforts towards establishing peace and development in the Maghreb region.

CORCAS chairman reaffirmed the Kingdom's serious search for a realistic and consensual political solution to Sahara issue, through the Moroccan initiative to grant broad autonomy to Sahrawis.

The delegation of MEPs who participated in these discussions was composed of Martin Kamp, EPP Secretary General, Antoine Ripoll, Deputy Secretary General and spokesman of the EPP President.

CORCAS Secretary General, Dr. Maouelainin Ben khalihenna Maouelainin and Moulay Ahmed Mghizlat Council member took part in this meeting.
