Upon the invitation of the United Nations Secretary General's Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross, Morocco will take part, on February 9-11, in the city of Armonk in New York outskirts, in the second informal meeting in preparation for the fifth round of negotiations aiming to find a political and final solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The Moroccan delegation will be composed of Foreign minister Taib Fassi Fihri, Director of Morocco's intelligence agency (DGED) Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, and Secretary General of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) Maouelainin Ben Khalihanna Maouelainin, the Foreign ministry said Monday in a statement.

This informal meeting, which will be held in the presence of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the polisario, is part of the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions 1813 (2008) and 1871 (2009) which call upon the parties to enter into a phase of intense and substantial negotiations, taking account of the efforts made by Morocco since 2006 and showing realism and a spirit of compromise.

Morocco will participate in this informal meeting with goodwill and a constructive spirit. The kingdom hopes that the other parties will abandon their rigid logic and adhere to a positive momentum to reach a realistic and feasible political solution of compromise for the benefit of peace, stability and the development of the region within the regional gathering of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia).
