Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Josep Antoni Duran i Lleida, reiterated, Thursday in Madrid, his support for Morocco's proposal to grant autonomy to its southern provinces as a suitable solution to settle the Sahara issue.

In a meeting with spokespersons of parliamentary groups at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Spanish Congress of Deputies and the secretary general of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM-opposition), Duran i Lleida, who is also president of the Democratic Union of Catalonia party, hoped that the issue of Aminatou Haidar will not undermine efforts made by Morocco to reach a solution to this dispute.

He said that there are other parties behind the issue of the so-called Aminatou Haidar, and called on those parties to help in finding a solution to this problem, which he described as "a trap" set for Spain and Morocco in order to sabotage the excellent relations between the two countries.

Duran i Lleida hailed Morocco's efforts to solve the Sahara issue, voicing satisfaction at the initiative submitted by the north African country to grant autonomy to its southern provinces.
