Participants in “Yes to autonomy” caravan "held Friday in Laayoune, highlighted the central role of the media in the defence of national causes, including support of the autonomy project in the Moroccan Sahara nationally and internationally.

At the 2nd National Meeting of the Caravan, under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, speakers called on the media to take advantage of new information technologies to highlight the benefits and dimensions of autonomy initiative within and outside the Kingdom, as well as achievements in various fields in the southern provinces.

Morocco has adopted the decentralization policy since 1976 and currently has a good experience with regionalization, they noted, recalling the contents of the royal speech, delivered on the occasion of the Green March, urging that southern provinces benefit from advanced regionalization.

Emphasis was also placed, at this meeting will continue until 25 December in Asilah, Rabat and Fez, on communication via the Internet, citing the example of the strategy by the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) represented at the event by its Secretary General Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khali Hanna Maouelainin, which created six websites in eight languages (Arabic, French, Spanish, English, Russian, Italian, German and Portuguese).

They also stressed the important role that the media can play in local mobilization and awareness on national issues, through the launch of discussions to give the public the opportunity to speak and submit proposals embodying the democratic process and national unity.

The director and founder of the party, Mr. Larbi Aqasbi said on this occasion that this initiative focuses on support to the Moroccan autonomy proposal at the national and international levels, indicating that this meeting comes to confirm the national consensus around a project called "serious" and "credible" by the international community.

Here follows the speech by Corcas Secretary General:

1- The importance of communicating via the Web:

2 - Since the establishment of the Internet across the world in the nineties of the last century, the enemies of our territorial integrity ie Polisario Front and many associations across the world that support them communicate alone in the virtual world, and thus became the only reference viewed by every information seeker, whether political, economic or historical about our dear Sahara. They spread lies and misinformation and changed history, and undermined all the features of development and progress lived in the South. Politically, they called themselves Sahrawis for of the world, and brought false information in encyclopedias operating via the Internet.

3 - His Majesty King Mohammed VI established the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs March 25, 2006. One of the main issues that the Council cares about is to address this long-deception of world public opinion and media in the same way they have been using for a long time. The Council decided to create an electronic bouquet that reveals the facts that the enemies of our territorial integrity wanted to hide at the political, historical, economic, social, cultural and architectural levels.

4 - Thus the Council announced at the end of the regular session of December 2006, the launch of an integrated electronic web sites, started by the official political site www.corcas.com which defines the Council, its functions, composition and follows its activities at home and abroad.
Then it launched five thematic sites, namely:
These sites are all speaking eight languages: Arabic, French, Spanish, English, German, Portuguese, Italian and Russian.

5 - Once we started to work on these websites, the enemies of our territorial integrity tried by all means to infiltrate into them, distort and destroy them only because they countered them in all fields, in which they were considered as reference; they had 7000 blogs and participated in hundreds of forum.

We faced them day and night in eight languages and we have established approximately 20,000 blogs and hundreds of forums even in important social networks, such as Facebook. This came as we followed all that is written and said about our cause and the result was that we have managed to rectify some misinformation on wikipédia, which published the flag of the fictitious Republic on its Sahara page. We succeeded in removing it and defeated some people who were blindly defending separation thesis.

6 – Worse, the enemies of our territorial integrity were just around the corner to obtain .eh domain name of the Sahara region which is granted by icann; so we reacted and met in many international capitals:
- New Delhi February 10 -15, 2008.
- Paris June 22-26, 2008.
- Cairo November 02-07, 2008.
- Mexico March 01-06, 2009.

We have succeeded in adopting a resolution by ICANN through a letter written by the Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs in which he decides to keep this domain (.eh), and not to attribute it to the Polisario Front. This is an example of the work done by the Council through to entrench the notion of self-government in the Sahara region which has been advocated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and which received worldwide support.

7 - In recognition of the success of this six website project, not in terms of quantity but in terms of quality, the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs won in 2007 the first "Imtiaz" prize, (National Award for Digital Management) granted by the Ministry of Public Sector Modernization yearly to the best administration which uses information and communication technology to set its activities and communicate with the external World.
