The most important element that was decisive in my return to my homeland, since Algeria created the Sahara artificial dispute, was the generous proposal put forward by HM King Mohammed VI to grant broad autonomy to Morocco's southern provinces", a founding member of the separatist movement of Polisario, said on Wednesday in New York.

Ahmedou Ould Souilem, who was also minister in charge of the Arab World in the phantom entity of Polisario until his return to his mother country, pointed out that "the autonomy proposal opened for the population detained in the Tindouf Camps hope to regain their freedom and to lead, along with their children, a better life.

He, however, regretted that "Algeria, which is controlling the camps and the Polisario leaders, thwarts the dream of these populations to return home". He called, before the fourth committee of the UN General Assembly, upon the UN to put an end to the sufferings of the population held in the Tindouf camps by backing the implementation of the Moroccan proposal.

Souliem, who returned to Morocco on July 29, noted that "my return to my homeland is the result of deep conviction that time has come to stop the interference of Algeria as well as the exploitation of my brothers".

He added that for tens of years Algeria and Polisario "have kept us under the illusion of a sovereign state and lured us with lies of an independent nation", noting that "though some of my countrymen believed, for a time, in Polisario lies, many have now come to find it a mere utopia”.

In the meantime, he said, "Morocco has witnessed the advent of a new democratic monarchy, the consolidation of political institutions and the emergence of a modern and open civil society".

In this regard, he noted that "over the past years, the mistakes of the past have been settled out publicly". He also said that the "Sahrawis contribute actively to the kingdom's development process and assume political responsibilities at the national and regional levels".
