Mr. Khalihenna Ould Rachid, chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, received on Friday at the Council’s headquarters, an official delegation from Sicily that includes a strong representation of the world of economy and finance, as part of a working visit to Morocco to support the investment opportunities and develop economic relations between the regions of Sicily, which has a system of autonomy established for 60 years and the Sahara.



Talks between Ould Errachid and his guests were devoted to developments in the Sahara issue, particularly concerning the negotiation process and the prospects of economic cooperation between the Sicilian Region and the Saharan region, which witnesses a booming economy and important development.

The delegation includes Mr. Sicilian. Marco Venturi, Minister of Regional Autonomous Government of Sicily in charge of Industry, Salvino Caputo, Deputy Regional, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of productive activities at the Autonomous Parliament of Sicily and Chairman of the Parliamentary Morocco Sicily Friendship Group, Marino Breganze, Chairman of Banca Nuova, Antonello Monti, Vice-President of the Federation of Entrepreneurs of Sicily, Antonio Salerno, President of the Federation of Contractors of Palermo, Francesco Femia, President of the Federation of Entrepreneurs of Reggio Calabria.

On the Moroccan side, this meeting was attended by Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khalihenna Maouelainin, Corcas Secretary General, Khadad El Moussaoui, Vice-President, My Ahmed Mghizlat, member of the Council.

The four day visit by the Sicilian delegation takes place in the context of economic promotion, organized by the Consulate General of Morocco in Palermo, which allowed the signature last May 22, of a financial partnership agreement, to accompany investors, organization of visits of businessmen and transfer of the Moroccan community living in Sicily. 

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Ould Khalihenna Errachid, received on the sidelines of the 1st session held in April 2009 in Rabat, the President of the Sicilian Regional Parliament, Mr. Francesco Catcho, who expressed its support to any initiative undertaken by Corcas concerning autonomy in the Sahara. The autonomy proposal was described by the Sicilian head as "central hub to find a negotiated political solution" to the conflict.
