During a debate held Saturday at Dakhla with the director of the Regional Investment Center (IRC), Mr. Abdellah BOUHJAR, ambassadors of Congo, Benin, Cameroon, Vietnam, Malta and chargé d ' Affairs at the Embassy of South Korea have expressed their admiration of the achievements of this region in the agricultural, industrial, tourist and ecological fields.

They also welcomed the operation and management of fishery resources in this region, its pilot projects of environmental protection and its efforts to upgrade the urban area and improve living conditions of inhabitants.

These diplomats have also followed with great interest the presentation by the Director of the IRC on investment opportunities offered in various sectors, including sea fishing, tourism, livestock and aquaculture.

According to data from the IRC, over 30 projects worth a total of DH 17.2 billion were approved during the 1st half of 2009.

These projects, which should allow the creation of 4295 jobs, will be carried out by Moroccan and foreign investors in the energy, tourism, agribusiness, services and trade sectors.

Covering a total value of MAD 16.88 billion, the proposed projects in the energy sector mainly concern the implementation of wind farms, a unit of solid waste treatment and storage of petroleum products.

In the tourism sector, there are projects with a cost of 158.75 million dirhams, including the achievement of villages, campsites, tourist complexes and water sports centers in the Bay of Oued Eddahab , near the Dakhla lagoon.

At this meeting, discussions focused on investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector, ostriches breeding, greenhouse crops (vegetables), tourism resort, housing and services.

Foreign diplomats have also shown a particular interest in the efforts made by Morocco in the areas of exploitation of fisheries, control of the quality of the biological, professional qualification, as well as management of freezing units.

Agriculture, which is a major socio-economic activity in this region, has been among the sectors that have attracted the delegation of visiting foreign ambassadors in Dakhla at the invitation of Diplomatica magazine.

Indeed, the region of Oued Eddahab-Lagouira, with 12.9 million hectares, is a pastoral area. The breeding of camels, rooted in the memory of nomads, has always been the main source of income for farmers in this region.

After the meetings held with the leaders of the RIC, sea fishing and agriculture, foreign diplomats have visited the Dakhla-based desalination station, ostrich farms, National Center of Fisheries Research and Greenhouses Crops Facilities.
