The latest UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution on the Sahara (1871) has consolidated the UN system of reference and the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General, by being part of the process launched in April 2007, thus refuting the logic of other parties, Foreign minister, Taib Fassi Fihri, said Thursday.

Addressing the Committee on Foreign Affairs, National Defense and Islamic Affairs in the House of Representatives, Fassi Fihri said the resolution, adopted unanimously by the UNSC on April 30th, reiterates the Council's support to all the provisions of resolution 1813, strengthening its central position as the "roadmap" to reach a political and final solution to this conflict.

For the fourth time, the Security Council has described as "serious and credible" Morocco's efforts and highlighted the pre-eminence of the Moroccan autonomy initiative, said the minister, who added that the Security Council stressed the imperative of the negotiation process, far from any blackmail.
