Presentation of autonomy at a conference entitled "Sahara between yesterday and tomorrow"

The Moroccan initiative to negotiate an autonomy statute in the Sahara region was explained Tuesday in Mexico City, at a conference held by Abdellahi Ahl Abdelkader, a member of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs(Corcas).

The Kingdom of Morocco has participated on April 8, 2008 in the meeting of Working Group of the Human Rights Council in charge of the Universal Periodic Review with a large delegation headed by Mr. Abdelwahd Radi, Minister of Justice, and Mghizlat Ahmed, CORCAS vice-president.

The preservation of Morocco’s territorial unity "is one of our main constants," said the secretary general of the World Mediation Forum, Mr. Marwane El Faouri.

Belgian senator, State Minister and vice-president of the Socialist Party, Philippe Moureaux deemed "inappropriate" agitation around the Algeria-backed Polisario separatists, while Morocco is offering autonomy to its Southern Provinces, The Sahara.

Resolution 1813, adopted recently by the UN Security Council on the Sahara issue, "is largely in favour" of Morocco, said Wednesday the president of the National Assembly (First Parliament House) of Gabon, Mr. Guy Nzouba Ndama.
