Population detained in the Tindouf camps must not continue to suffer for the failure of Algeria to fulfill its commitment to the International Law, U.S. Think Tank Inter-University Center for Legal Studies (IUCLS) said.

Several African countries expressed on Friday in New York, before the 4th United Nations Committee their full support to efforts by Morocco to resolve the dispute over the Sahara. These countries also welcomed the autonomy initiative as a solution that suits all parties to this conflict.

The situation of populations retained in the Polisario camps in Tindouf has brought about many interventions during the debates in the 4th commission of the UN General Assembly. These interventions varied between those which demand the opening of inquiry on the plight of human rights and Polisario's actions in this regard, those which demand the liberation of the people, and those that require the application of UNHCR's statutory obligations for the benefit of the sequestered in Tindouf.
