On Thursday in Geneva, during the 77th annual session of the UNHCR Executive Committee, a group of countries formed to support UNHCR’s role in resolving protracted refugee situations called for residents of the Tindouf camps to be informed of the various “durable solution options” available to them. This call comes in light of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 and the diplomatic developments that have followed its adoption.

Burkina Faso reaffirmed, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative to achieve a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable" solution to the artificial dispute around the Moroccan Sahara.

On Tuesday in Geneva, Morocco called on the leadership of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and donor countries to refocus their efforts on funding sustainable solutions for the population of the Tindouf camps, with what it described as significant support from members of the UNHCR Executive Committee. These solutions include voluntary repatriation, local integration in the host country, and resettlement in third countries, based on the free and voluntary choices of the populations concerned.

Peru reiterated, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco, calling for a solution to the Sahara issue on the basis of the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty.

Gabon reaffirmed before the United Nations its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative, which constitutes a “serious and credible basis” to resolve the regional dispute around the Moroccan Sahara in respect of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.
