A communiqué of the Moroccan Foreign Ministry on Thursday said the delegation was received respectively by the Heads of State of the member countries - Paul Biya, President of Cameroon - Haj Omar Bongo Odimba, President of Gabon - François Bozizé, President of the Central African Republic - Theodore Obiang N'guema, President of Equatorial Guinea - Denis Sassou Nguesso, President of Congo - Fradique de Menezes, President of Sao Tome and Principe (observer country).
The Royal emissaries have transmitted to the Heads of State the greetings of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His wishes of success to the summit of the Organization, which contributes in a bold and constructive manner in strengthening sub-regional and continental integration.
The meetings were also an opportunity to examine the state of political ties and cooperation with each country and the ways to further promote them.
In this respect, it is noteworthy that in a final declaration, the CEMAC Heads of State and Government have, regarding the Sahara issue, “called on the parties concerned and interested to continue to cooperate with the Secretary-General and his Special Envoy for a peaceful solution to the Sahara issue within the UN framework and in accordance with international legality.”
They also “welcomed, in this regard, Morocco’s Initiative of April 11, 2007 as a possible way to maintain the momentum given to the process of negotiations towards a mutually acceptable political solution.”
This statement of Central African countries, CEMAC members, consolidates Morocco’s efforts, through the initiative of autonomy, to bring the Sahara issue out of the impasse and help find and a definitive political solution to this regional dispute that puts at risk the future of the desired Maghreb and African integration.
Without being a member of the African Union, Morocco maintains brotherly and fruitful bilateral ties with the countries of the continent and of sub-regional gatherings such as CEMAC.
