The responsibility for human rights breaches by the "Polisario" lies primarily on Algeria, which shelters the Tindouf camps on its territory, former ambassador of the "Polisario" to Italy, Sidati El Ghallaoui, affirmed here on Tuesday.    "Algeria is the main responsible for breaches of the Sahrawi population’s rights in the camps of Tindouf, where it is deprived of its most basic rights," he told MAP-Geneva.

"The objective of our visit to Geneva is to inform the Human Rights Council (HRC), and through it, the rights organizations and the international public opinion about rights breaches in the camps of Tindouf," said El Ghallaoui, who participates along with a delegation from Morocco's southern provinces in the works of the 9th session of the HRC.

The former official, who noted that "people have lived for more than thirty years in inhumane conditions. They were deprived of the most basic rights such as the freedom of movement and subdued by force to the diktat of the +Polisario+," underlined that "we are also working to bring international organizations to pressure the +Polisario+ and Algeria to compel them to end this situation."

He also reported that he had met members of rights IGO "Human Rights Watch" (HRW) to whom he "described the dramatic situation endured by our brethren in the Tindouf camps."

El Ghallaoui also noted that he informed HRW about the violations to which the populations of these camps are subjected, namely no freedom of movement, the embezzlement of humanitarian aid for personal purposes and attempts to obliterate the identity of Moroccan Sahrawis by deporting their children.
