Algeria has caused damage in the various phases of the Sahara issue

CORCAS member condemned on Friday, October 6, 2006 before the Fourth Committee of the United Nations harm caused by Algeria during the different stages of the Sahara issue, as well as its responsibility for the current impasse.

He pointed out that Algeria, which created the "Polisario", put the Algerian diplomacy, the media, and enormous means at the diposal of this separatist movement for the corruption of some countries to recognize the so called "Saharan Republic” which has no State element.

He condemned in particular " maneuvers made by Algeria and Polisario during the identification process in order to prevent real Sahrawis from voting, pointing out that this situation convinced the Secretary General of the United Nations  of the inapplicability of the UN settlement and the need to search for a political alternative agreed upon by the parties. "

He stressed that "the overwhelming majority of the Sahara population, living in Morocco, believes that the best solution applicable is autonomy declared by His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the final settlement of this file." He regretted the fact that the Sahara issue is still on the UN agenda as Sahara decolonization was made with the withdrawal of Spain in 1975 the date when Morocco completed its territorial integrity. "

The lecturer made Algeria responsible for the humanitarian tragedy that is still affecting families detained in the camps, called "refugee" camps where basic human rights are violated on a daily basis, adding that the situation obliges the international community to intervene to put an end to such behavior, which is against their will.

In referring to the task of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, he pointed out that this body, which "includes all Saharan opponents was asked by His Majesty the King to submit autonomy proposal under the national sovereignty and the territorial unity of Morocco, which opened the way for a broad discussion in the various cities in Morocco including academics, political parties and civil society to discuss all aspects of autonomy proposed by Morocco. "

Mr. Ahl Miarra called on the international community to "take into account the will of the majority of the Sahara population which wants an end to the conflict with respect for the territorial integrity of Morocco."
