Major Event

The political situation in Morocco and recent developments concerning the Sahara issue was the subject of a symposium organized  on Sunday evening in Hanoi on the sidelines of the of 17th conference of the World Federation of Democratic Youth, which is held in the Vietnamese capital on March 10-14.

Mr. Said Fekkak Chairman of the Delegation of the Moroccan Democratic Youth, Youth President at the Party of Progress and Socialism, Talea Saud, member of the Secretariat of the National Socialist Union of Popular Forces, Ahmed Salem Ltafi member of the Political Bureau of the Party of Progress and Socialism and member of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, as well as water Shaybah Maoulainain member of the Executive Committee of the Independence Party and member of the Council, provided an overview of the political situation in Morocco, and provided explanations on autonomy which the kingdom plans to submit to the Organization of the United Nations.

The initiative was the focus of tribute by Democrats youth belonging to several countries, who attended the seminar in order to understand the nature of this artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, and listen to the viewpoint of the other party, which is Morocco, particularly, as they are accustomed to hearing the erroneous theses of Polisario and Algeria, which tried in vain to cover up the symposium.

The young people paid tribute to this initiative, which enabled them to take a clear idea of the conflict and expressed hope that further efforts will be made to resolve this situation.

Thus, Mr. Atlassi focused on the efforts made by Morocco since 1981 when it proposed to the Organization of African Unity, the organization of a referendum in the Sahara for the final settlement of this issue. He said this step was reconsidered in 1984 after the illegal acceptance of the alleged Republic within the Organization of African Unity, which forced Morocco to withdraw from to the Organization.

After mentioning the failure of Baker Plan, the lecturer referred to the project elaborated by Morocco to put an end to this long conflict, in order to respond to the call of the international community.

For his part, Mr. Altafi considered that this initiative will allow the inhabitants handle their own affairs according to international standards.

He stressed that autonomy comes in a historic context marked by public freedoms, especially freedom of expression and press, and the growing role of civil society, as well as the launch of social and economic reforms in this regard, such as the Family Code and Nationality Act and the liberalization of the audiovisual landscape ..., pointing out that these bold reforms make Morocco go on the road of democracy.

Mr. Maoulainain  considered that this choice strengthens the position of Morocco in its quest aimed at the final closing of this file, and put an end to the suffering of tens of thousands of our citizens in the camps on Algerian territory, putting responsibility of the suffering on the so-called leaders of Polisario, who represent only themselves.

In this context, he gave the example context of 6000 separatists who discovered that they had not taken the right path, and that their future is in their home country, so they left the camps after being victims of misleading propaganda exerted by the separatists, who were formerly students in Rabat, and whose parents and brothers are still living in Morocco.

The lecture was followed by a discussion on this conflict, where lecturers expressed the hope that a solution will be found as soon as possible, in order to enable the peoples of the region to direct their efforts towards economic development in a globalized world.
