Saint Lucia reaffirmed, Tuesday in New York, its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, presented by the Kingdom to definitively settle the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

"My delegation supports the Moroccan Autonomy initiative" to achieve a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution to this artificial conflict, stressed Saint Lucia's representative, Carlton Ronnie Henry, before members of the 4th Committee of the United Nations’ General Assembly.

He also reiterated his country's support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara to facilitate the political process, adding that the resolution of this conflict can only be achieved within the exclusive framework of the United Nations.

The diplomat finally called on all parties to engage constructively and in good faith in this process.
