Bahraini king, Hamad Ben Aissa Al Khalifa, who received a visiting Moroccan top-level delegation, pledged to "make all efforts to urge brotherly countries and international bodies to persuade all the parties concerned to engage in serious and constructive dialog," according to a communiqué of the Bahraini Royal Cabinet.
He also deemed "suitable and ideal means" this proposal which paves the way towards the integration of the Maghreb region (that includes, besides Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia) and ensures the region's security, stability and development.
During this meeting, the delegation, composed of king's advisor, Mohamed Moatassim, and head of Morocco's intelligence, Yassine Mansouri, conveyed a message to king Hamad Ben Aissa Al Khalifa regarding Bahrain's support to the proposal due to be submitted to the UN Security Council next month.
For his part, the Yemeni president, Ali Abdallah Saleh, reiterated, “his country’s stance backing Morocco’s territorial integrity and the settlement of disputes through peaceful means,” following a meeting with the delegation.
The delegation, had earlier on the day visited Kuwait where it explained the proposal to the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Several delegations tour world capitals to present the broad lines of the project, part of Morocco's diplomatic moves to drum up support to the autonomy plan it crafted to end the conflict opposing the kingdom to Polisario, who lays claims to the Sahara, a former Spanish colony retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid Accord.
In the same vein, the French Socialist Party “satisfactorily welcomes” Morocco’s initiative regarding the autonomy proposal for the Sahara, noting that the settlement of this issue is a prerequisite for the reconciliation between Morocco and Algeria.
In a letter addressed to the Moroccan ambassador to France, Pierre Moscovici, the party’s National Secretary for International Relations, noted that "the Socialist Party satisfactorily welcomes the Moroccan initiative of the autonomy proposal," as well as "any initiative that would contribute to settling this conflict through a negotiated, pragmatic and realistic solution between all the parties concerned."
