Thursday evening in Berlin, the relevance of autonomy presented by Morocco to settle the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara was highlighted, during a meeting-discussion organized by the Coalition for the Sahara Autonomy.

This meeting, which was held in the presence of many members of the Moroccan community in Germany, was an opportunity to highlight the dimensions of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a realistic solution to this artificial conflict and centrality of the first national cause for all Moroccans.
In her speech on this occasion, Vice President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Gala Bahia, reviewed the implications of the Moroccan initiative and the development boom in the southern provinces noting that the autonomy plan is the best possible solution to close this file.

Ms. Bahia stresses the UN Security Council considers the plan a serious and credible initiative to break the stalemate, and thus has received broad support from the international community, including powers such as the United States, Spain and Germany.

On the other hand, the speaker noted that the development dynamics observed at different levels in the southern regions of Morocco are the result of participatory and comprehensive efforts implemented under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and involving all components of the local population.

Bahia continued that the development program launched by His Majesty the King is, in fact, an ambitious step to implement regionalization and open the doors to a final solution to the fabricated dispute over the territorial integrity.

She pointed out that the wide participation of the people of the southern provinces in the elections is conclusive evidence of their commitment to participate in the social and economic development of the region, as well as political life, adding that this also confirms their firm adherence to the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and the Moroccan identity.

For his part, Julian Hermann, member of the board of directors of the German “Junge Union” organization, indicated that the autonomy plan for the Moroccan Sahara is a good proposal for settlement and a first step towards laying the foundations for a stable region.

He considered that this initiative enhances peace and stability in this region and strengthens partnership with Europe, and more specifically with Germany.

Herrmann recalled that the recent UN resolution referred to Algeria's responsibility in the conflict and invited it to participate in the round-table meetings.

Regarding the projects implemented by the Kingdom in the southern provinces, Herrmann indicated that economic investments contribute to the stability of the region, stressing that Europe is called upon to be more active through economic measures to promote development in the region, and Europe has a duty to support the Moroccan autonomy plan and put this conflict on the table.

For his part, Azzedine Kariouh, a lawyer residing in Germany, indicated that the Moroccan autonomy plan, which represents a realistic and credible solution, will allow the inhabitants of the southern provinces to manage their own social, economic, cultural and administrative affairs.
