Major Event

The Moroccan MP Laila Dahi was elected, Saturday, president of the Youth Caucus within the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), as part of the ordinary session of the fifth legislature of the institution, held from June 27 to July 2 at the headquarters of the hemicycle in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Speaking on this occasion, Ms. Dahi, MP for the National Rally of Independents (RNI) in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, said she was proud to have had the confidence of Afro-deputies to represent youth in this pan-African institution, noting that she will spare no effort to carry out this difficult mission.
She added that she is determined to serve the interests of youth in all African countries and give the image of an ambitious and developed Africa, in accordance with the will and ambition of the Kingdom of Morocco.

In addition, the vice-presidency of the Commission on Gender within the PAP went to Ms. Khadija Arouhal, from the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS).

On Wednesday, Zephania Charumbira of Zimbabwe, representing the Southern African Caucus, was elected as the new PAP Chair by the members of the Ad Hoc Committee appointed by the five regional caucuses.

Her election as the new PAP chairperson put an end to the unfortunate events that occurred in this chamber in June 2021, during the aborted elections of the Bureau of the Parliament, which brought the image of this institution into disrepute.

The Moroccan delegation to this new session of the PAP is composed of Aydi Youssef from the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), Abdessamad Haiker, Justice and Development Party (PJD), Laila Dahi from RNI, Khadija Arouhal from PPS and Abahnini Mohamed of the General Union of Workers of Morocco (UGTM).
