Major Event

The first edition of the forum MD Sahara opened Thursday in Dakhla, under the theme "the southern provinces: major diplomatic openings and new avenues of development", at the initiative of the media group Maroc Diplomatique.


The opening ceremony of this event took place in the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, the Minister of Solidarity, Social Integration and Family, Aawatif Hayar, in addition to the Wali of the Region Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Lamine Benomar, local elected officials, along with ambassadors, consuls and consuls general of several countries in Dakhla and Laayoune.


This annual forum will bring together, for two days, prestigious speakers, officials, decision-makers, analysts and experts in the presence of a relevant audience, around issues relating mainly to the development of the southern provinces and their role as an African hub.


A large audience, including diplomats and Moroccan and foreign officials, will meet around themes of great importance for the southern provinces in order to discuss, among other things, diplomatic openings, new avenues of development, the opening on Africa but also on the world.


This first edition, which coincides with the celebration of Independence Day, is an opportunity to highlight the potential and opportunities that abound in the southern provinces of the Kingdom (infrastructure, diplomatic representations, national and international investments).


For the director of the editorial group Maroc Diplomatique, Souad Mekkaoui, "today the diplomatic news is in the South of the Kingdom, it is therefore our duty to respond, not only with our pens but by putting all our means to participate, a little, in the economic boom of this region.


In the same vein, the director of the publication of Morocco Diplomatic, Hassan Alaoui, stressed that as a Moroccan media group "independent and patriotic, we have given ourselves the mission to defend the interests of our country, as well as any national cause. Holding an annual event in the Moroccan Sahara is a duty for Maroc diplomatique".


Specifically, the program of this event is divided into three roundtables focused on "Geostrategy and diplomatic openness of the South", "Southern provinces: locomotive of regional and continental development", "South-South cooperation, lever for accelerating economic and social development in Africa".


During these roundtables, participants will sift through a series of themes, including "The Southern Provinces: Historical realities, a Royal vision and a territory of performance", "Morocco: Redeployment of a diplomacy on the move", "Sahara-Sahel: Morocco an actor of stability", "The advanced regionalization and major diplomatic openings: New Synergies for Development", "Southern Provinces: World-Class Infrastructure and Energy Potential", "Enhancing Sustainable Competitiveness in Africa by Strengthening African Economies", and "Dakhla: A Maritime Interface for Economic Integration and a Hub for Continental and International Influence".


Highlight. The first MD Sahara Forum will be sanctioned by the launch of the African Observatory of Economic and Social Development.


At the opening of this 1st Forum, an institutional film tracing the milestones that marked the completion of the territorial integrity of Morocco was shown.
