The Director General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) paid Abderrahim El Hafidi made Wednesday in Dakhla, a field visit to inquire about the state of facilities of the Office and major projects scheduled and underway related to the supply of electricity and liquid sanitation in the region Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.


The projects related to the electricity activity which have mobilized a total amount of 276 million dirhams (MDH), come in response to the growing demand for electricity given the socio-economic dynamics that the region and its influence at national and continental levels.


El Hafidi inquired about the structuring project relating to the creation of a substation 60/22 kV at PK 40, with an overall cost of 148 MDH, co-financed by ONEE, the Regional Council, the Agency for the Promotion and Economic and Social Development of the southern provinces of the Kingdom (APDS) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries -Fisheries Sector-.


This project will connect to the national grid of electricity emerging centers of the province of Oued Eddahab, namely the fishing sites N'Tireft, Labouirda and Imoutlane, and the town of El Argoub.


It also includes agricultural projects in the communes of El Argoub and Bir Inzarane (Glib Jadiane area), as well as the tourist area located at Dakhla Bay (PK25).


This project, whose specific agreement is being approved, will also allow the supply of electricity to the port of Dakhla Atlantic and the new urban pole at PK 40.


Similarly, two structuring projects in the province of Aousserd were presented to the CEO of ONEE: the first is the electrification of the border post El Guerguarat via its connection to the electricity network of the center of Bir Gandouz, requiring a budget of 77 MDH, co-financed by ONEE, the Regional Council, the Directorate General of Local Government and APDS.


The contract for this project is currently being judged and work will start in November 2021.


The second project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in December 2022, aims to ensure a continuous power supply 24 hours a day, instead of 12 hours a day, for the Aousserd Center.


It consists in the hybridization of the existing diesel power plant by a solar power plant with a storage system. With an overall cost of 51.25 MDH, this project is co-financed by ONEE, the General Directorate of Local Government and the Regional Council.


It should be noted that the technical studies for the connection of the centers of Bir Gandouz and El Guerguarat to the national grid are being conducted by the Office.


In a statement to the press, Mr. El Hafidi stressed that after the major strategic project on the connection of the city of Dakhla to the national grid, the Office begins an "important step" focused on the connection of electricity centers and municipalities in the region, as well as the Atlantic port and the urban pole that will be built at PK 40.


 "We have also finalized the final adjustments for the project of connecting electricity from the border post El Guerguarat, which will be connected to the production plant in Bir Gandouz, to increase production capacity, "he continued, noting that the Office will also focus on the realization of a connection line with this border post of about 83 KM.


In addition, the DG of ONEE visited the site of the project of the solar drying unit of sludge at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of Dakhla to monitor the progress of work.


With a cost of 26 MDH, this drying unit has a treatment capacity of 20 T/D. All arrangements are made by the Office to start testing in October 2021 for a start of operation of the solar drying unit before the end of 2021.


Mr. El Hafidi also visited the other units of the WWTP, which is of the activated sludge type, with a capacity of 10,000 m3 / d and equipped with a tertiary treatment system for the reuse of purified water.


He also emphasized with the technical teams of the Office on the importance of the recovery of wastewater and its reuse for watering green spaces in the city of Dakhla, especially in the context of scarcity of conventional resources in the region, and for the rationalization of the use of drinking water.
