The unprecedented international support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara and the spectacular successes of Moroccan diplomacy on all fronts, including that of human rights, have reduced the thesis of the separatists and their mentors to what it is: a web of lies, manipulation and instrumentalization.

Thus, within the framework of the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which is being held in Geneva, the Ambassador, permanent representative of the Gabonese Republic in Geneva, Mireille Sarah Nzenze, gave a declaration, on behalf of the Support Group for the Territorial Integrity of the Kingdom, in which around thirty Member States have, vigorously and solemnly, reaffirmed their strong and continued support for the "full and complete sovereignty of Morocco over its Saharan provinces".

The group also reiterated its support for the peaceful and legal action taken by Morocco in November 2020 to ensure free civil and commercial movement at the El Guerguarat border post, linking Morocco and Mauritania, in order to end provocations undermining the freedom of movement of people and goods on this key route between Africa and Europe.

In this statement, the group welcomed the opening, by many countries, of consulates general in the cities of Dakhla and Laâyoune, which constitute a lever for strengthening economic cooperation and investments, for the benefit of local populations, as well as regional and continental development.

While stressing that the interaction of Member States with the Council and the High Commissioner must keep its bilateral aspect and be preserved from any instrumentalisation which generates counterproductive debates within the Council, Ambassador Nzenze recalled that the Sahara issue remains a political dispute handled by the UN Security Council, which recognizes the preeminence of the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco as credible and serious solution to this regional dispute.

She noted that the resolution of this regional dispute will contribute to achieving the legitimate aspirations of the African and Arab peoples in terms of integration and development, a goal that Morocco continues to aim for and for which it is making sincere and continuous efforts.

In the same vein and while recalling the Kingdom's commitment, for many years, to a constructive, voluntary-based and deep interaction with the United Nations human rights system, in particular the office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), for the promotion and respect of human rights throughout Morocco, she highlighted the resolutions of the Security Council which welcome the role played by National and regional human rights commissions in Dakhla and Laâyoune and the interaction between Morocco and the mechanisms under the special procedures of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

This declaration, made in a formal framework within the United Nations, by States from various continents, confirms the increasingly clear and strong international adherence to the sovereignty of the Kingdom over its southern provinces, and the rejection of the use of the Human Rights Council fora by Algeria and its isolated small group.
