The Italian press has devoted many articles to resolution 2548 on the Moroccan Sahara adopted on October 30 by the United Nations Security Council, highlighting the preeminence of the autonomy initiative and underlining the role of Algeria as a main party to this artificial conflict.

Under the title "Extension of the Minurso: Preeminence of the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco", the expartibus.it website said that the Security Council has requested the resumption of consultations between the future Personal Envoy and the parties concerned by this regional dispute, namely Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario.

For its part, the website notizienazionali.it noted that the UN Security Council once again confirmed the role of Algeria as a party to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

To this end, the website indicated that putting the spotlight on the Algerian role is the sine-qua-non condition for "reaching a political, realistic, pragmatic and durable solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue, based on compromise".

It said that "for the 14th consecutive year, the Security Council has underlined the preeminence of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan identity of the Sahara".

In addition, the Agenzia Nova news agency published a story titled "Sahara: UN resolution enshrines Algeria's role as a party concerned”.

The agency, which reported large extracts from the statement by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad Nasser Bourita following the adoption of resolution 2548, highlighted the support expressed by the United States at the Security Council, to the Moroccan autonomy initiative, describing it as serious and credible to achieve a solution and enable the population to manage its own affairs.

For its part, the Mediterranews website noted that the Security Council expressed its appreciation for the role of the CNDH regional commissions in Laâyoune and Dakhla, as it voiced its deep concern over the living conditions of populations of Tindouf camps in Algeria.
