A meeting held Tuesday at the headquarters of the wilaya of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra drew up the state of progress of the projects in the sectors of water, electricity and renewable energies, within the framework of the new model of development of the southern provinces (2015/2021).


Chaired by the wali of the region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, this meeting made discussed ways of overcoming possible obstacles that could hinder the implementation of these projects.


In a presentation, the regional director of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), Mohamed Boubekri, gave an update on the progress of projects related to dams, protection against flooding and feeding the groundwater of Foum El Oued.


He said the total cost of these 8 projects is estimated at 170 million (MDh), provided by the Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water.


Regarding hydraulic structures, the regional director of ONEE cited the completion in June 2019 of the Labouir dam in the province of Tarfaya for an amount of 17.4 MDH, while the rate of progress of the El Mouhajib dam at Laâyoune, which cost 18.8 MDH, has already reached 100%.


In the province of Smara, construction on the Sidi Ahmed Rguibi dam (23.5 MDH) has also been completed, while the completion of Kssat dam (15 MDH) is around 40%.




Regarding protection against floods, he noted that the province of Laâyoune benefited from a project in this area, which mobilized a budget over 31 million MAD, with a rate of progress amounting to 100%.


The works of this same type of project were completed in July 2019 in the province of Smara for an overall cost of 43 MDH. 




Another flood protection project worth more than 13 MDH is at the initial stage in the province of Boujdour.


The representative of the Regional Directorate of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water stressed that the progress rate of the Sakia El Hamra dam construction project reached 28%. 




This project, whose implementation period is estimated at 48 months (April 2018-July 2022), mobilizes an investment of around 423 million dirhams.


 ONEE representative said that 7 billion MAD are mobilized for the realization of seven projects related to the electricity sector in the region. He said that these projects concern 3 wind farms, 2 solar and as well as the electrification of two fishing villages.
