Deputy Speaker of Paraguay House of representatives, Carlos Nelson Chavez, said the autonomy proposal of Morocco to settle the Sahara issue is "the best solution" to the conflict.

Chavez told the press here on Monday, at the end of a meeting with Speakers of the two chambers of the Moroccan parliament, Abdelouahed Radi and Mustapha Ocacha, his current visit to Morocco is meant to get information on the latest developments of the Sahara dispute.

The conflict erupted in the mid seventies following the claim of the Algeria-backed "Polisario" to separate the Moroccan southern provinces retrieved by Morocco at the time from Spain under the Madrid accords. After the failed Baker plan, Morocco is presenting to the UNO a proposal granting large autonomy to the provinces to run local affairs.

Chavez also said his visit is aiming at reinforcing relations and contacts between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Radi told MAP, talks with the Paraguayan MP delegation dealt with bilateral and international issues, as well as the Sahara dispute and the Moroccan foreign policy based on the defense of peace and international legality.

The Paraguay MPs had also met with the President of the Royal Consultative Council for Sahrawi Affairs (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid and the council Secretary General, Maouelainin Ben Khelli henna and other Sahrawi personalities.
