A separatist group meeting in Gjijimat, in Tifariti region, in the Moroccan Sahara, announced Saturday their adherence to the Moroccan proposal for the negotiation of an autonomy statute in the Sahara region, "particularly when this autonomy guarantees, lastingly and constitutionally, political, economic, social and cultural rights within the Kingdom of Morocco ".

In a "Gjijimat Declaration ", broadcast by the Qatari television channel Aljazeera, delegates stressed their support to the option of autonomy provided it assures, "to ours, honorable return conditions, under democracy, freedom and respect of human rights, and if it will be an opportunity for them to receive compensation for material and moral losses incurred during this period."

Following the congress, convened under the theme of "autonomy, a definitive solution for achieving reconciliation and return to dignity", delegates affirmed their support to "the approach taken by the president of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs(Corcas) under the aegis and blessed direction of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God protect Him. "

Delegates take into account "the effects of the conflict on people, society and the whole region and the failure of all settlement attempts by the United Nations and within other frameworks, as well as the time taken by this conflict that has lasted too long. "

The position of participants in the Gjijimat congress is dictated by the "negative consequences" of the duration of this conflict on family, social, economic and political development, in addition to the fact that the conflict "is of a political nature" and that "the solution may be only through negotiation, peace and the willingness of people to return to their homes in dignity and harmony».

This position is also explained by "the imperative need to put an end to this sterile conflict and its negative consequences," as  well as "the lack of democracy and transparency within the current leadership of Polisario Front, absolutism practiced by many members of the leadership who confiscate our future, and the absence, at home, of the will to open up to peace and engage in positive negotiations to end the conflict that struck our people, causing serious damage. "

Delegates stressed that this position is also justified by "the will of our people to return to their homes as soon as possible, abandon Lahmada camps forever and live in dignity and comfort offered by means of modern life, "and by the deep desire of our people to put an end to the separation of families" .

It is also dictated by the fact that "claiming what is impossible causes, for our people, many losses in the short and long term", as well as "our desire for reconciliation and union of all Saharawis".

This adherence to autonomy initiative comes at a time when the protest by Sahrawis of the Polisario attitude goes even inside the camps.

On Saturday, tribal officials have proclaimed their opposition and said were irritated by the way the leadership of Polisario manages the Sahara issue for the realization of their claim, announcing their dissidence with this movement, reported Sunday evening in its newsletter, the satellite channel " Al Hourra", broadcast in Rabat.

The channel pointed out that the leaders of these tribes have denounced despotism and dictatorship of +Polisario+ leadership, adding that the sheikhs and leaders of Saharan tribes have affirmed their rejection of the way in which the front leadership manages the Sahara issue, and condemn widespread corruption within +Polisario+.

"We announce our dissidence from +Polisario+ management," said Hamed Fadel of the "Souaed", tribe in a statement to "Al Hourra" channel correspondent in Tiris (northern Mauritania).

The sheikhs of Saharan tribes have also organized demonstrations in the buffer zone of Tifariti to denounce the so-called "Polisario" congress, accusing its leadership to practice «decision monopoly".

In a story on the buffer zone, aired during its Maghreb information bulletin, the Qatari satellite channel Aljazeera reported Friday that the sheikhs wanted to make their voices heard and denounce exclusion practiced by the leaders of the "Polisario" front.

These sheikhs have organized "these events during the (POLISARIO) Congress to express, in their own way, their dissatisfaction with the manner in which the leaders of the front handle this issue", "said the channel envoy quoting influential groups within the Saharan tribes.
