In an article published on the FPP website, Ricardo Sánchez Serra wrote that "the (Security) Council considers that the autonomy proposal is serious and credible for finding a just, lasting and political solution acceptable to the parties to the Sahara issue", noting that the Security Council resolutions no longer mention the word "referendum" which has become "null and void" with regard to this issue.
The Peruvian expert in international relations added that "it is unrealistic and unacceptable to create a failed state," noting that what North Africa needs is to achieve economic development in a climate of peace.
Ricardo Sánchez also described the roundtable meetings process involving Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the +polisario+ as "a good decision in line with reality", expressing the hope that UN Security Council resolutions will allow the release of Sahrawis held against their will in the Tindouf camps in Algeria in order to free them from the torture of the separatists' leaders and the inhuman living conditions they suffer in these camps.
For the author of the article, the Sahrawis held in Tindouf are only "cannon fodder" for the geopolitical ambitions of Algeria, which seeks access to the Atlantic Ocean, an objective for which the Algerian regime maintains this "sterile conflict".
