The French president Nicolas Sarkozy reaffirmed on Monday to the Algerian president Abdelaziz bouteflika, the French position concerning the Sahara , pointed out a diplomatic French source. During the talks between the two heads of states which took place during the first day of the state visit of president Sarkozy, the same diplomatic source specified that the question of Sahara was mentioned, and that the position of France has not changed.



According to the same source, France greeted the process of Manhasset negotiations, and would like to see the continuation of such talks, and their full achievement

Asked about the reaction of the Algerian president, this source refused to comment, before underlying “you know well Bouteflika’s position» on this matter

During his last official visit to Morocco (from 22 to 24 October) Mr Sarkozy expressed his desire that the Sahara autonomy plan proposed by Morocco” would serve as a basis of negotiations for a search of a reasonable solution” to the Sahara question qualifying the Moroccan proposal as “serious and credible”

“the Moroccan autonomy plan exists, it is on the table, and constitutes a new element of proposal, after years of deadlock, I hope that it will serve as a basis of negotiations for a search of a reasonable solution” to the Sahara question, he asserted before members of both houses of parliament in Rabat.’ France will be at your side” he assured
