Speaker of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, Delfim Santiago Das Neves, reiterated Tuesday in Rabat the full support of his country for Morocco’s territorial integrity.


Das Neves, who held talks with Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house), Habib El Malki, announced his intention to visit the southern city of Laayoune, noting that the city “has witnessed a significant progress alike the other regions of the Kingdom ".

He also underscored the investment opportunities offered by the two countries in several areas, including tourism, health, education, sustainable development and logistics, noting that Morocco is today one of the largest economies in the continent, says a statement from the Lower House.

He also expressed his gratitude to Morocco for hosting 180 Sao Tome students in Moroccan schools and universities.

He extended, on this occasion, an invitation to the speaker of the House of Representatives to pay a working visit to Sao Tome and Principe to discuss the means to develop bilateral cooperation.

For his part, El Malki stressed that this visit reflects the solidity of the relations of friendship and fraternity between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, adding that the visit will contribute to developing bilateral parliamentary cooperation.

He also welcomed the strong support of Sao Tome and Principe for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, commending the support of the Republic of Sao Tome for Morocco’s return to the African Union.

In this regard, El Malki said Morocco is determined to further promote joint African action and strengthen unity and solidarity on the Continent.

He also announced the creation of a parliamentary friendship group between the two countries, while stressing the need to consolidate coordination and consultation between the two legislative institutions at international and regional fora and develop the exchange of experiences and expertise.

The two sides agreed to sign a cooperation agreement between the two parliaments with a view to developing coordination and strengthening solidarity and exchange of experiences in the areas related to parliamentary action.
