Kuwait has reiterated to the United Nations its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative in the Sahara as a "constructive plan to achieve a mutually acceptable solution".

In an address on Monday before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the representative of the State of Kuwait stressed "the imperative to respect the unity and sovereignty of Morocco", recalling the unified position of the Gulf States on the Sahara issue, "expressed at the Morocco-Gulf countries summit in Riyadh on 20 April 2016". In this regard, the Kuwaiti diplomat noted that his country commends the efforts of the United Nations and its Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, as well as those of former United Nations envoy Horst Koehler, "who facilitated the holding of the two round table meetings of parties concerned by the Sahara issue". He also hailed the participation of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and polisario in accordance with the provisions of Security Council resolutions 2414 and 2440, highlighting the positive spirit of these meetings, which "aim to find a mutually acceptable political solution". The representative of Kuwait also welcomed the readiness of the parties to participate in the third round table meeting, as provided for in Security Council resolution 2468.
