Ecuador welcomed Morocco's serious and credible efforts to find a realistic solution based on compromise to the Sahara issue.

This position was expressed, on Monday in Rabat, by Ecuadorian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Cooperation Andrés Terán, following his talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. In a press briefing after the meeting, the Ecuadorian official, who is on a working visit to Morocco, said that he recognizes efforts made by the UN Secretary-General and his envoy for the Sahara, as well as Morocco's efforts to forge ahead with the process. Andrés Terán also expressed his country's support for the continuation of the UN's work to achieve a realistic, pragmatic and durable solution to the dispute over the Sahara, based on realism and compromise, commending the progress made at the working meeting held last March in Geneva and the consensus by the parties to the conflict to find a solution to the Sahara issue that would benefit the entire Maghreb.
