During these talks, which took place in the presence of the Moroccan ambassador to Norway Lamia Radi, the Moroccan delegation shed light on the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom with a view to reaching a final political settlement to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, while highlighting the progress witnessed by the southern provinces.

In a statement to MAP following these talks, President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, Yanja El Khattat, said that these meetings were "fruitful", underlining that these talks allowed "the Norwegian officials, who have listened attentively to our remarks, to find out some realities and to have a clear idea on the issue".

"We have provided very specific information and presented the different aspects of development in our southern regions," said El Khattat, who leads the Moroccan delegation.

"We have also highlighted the Moroccan autonomy initiative that is aimed at reaching a sustainable, mutually accepted solution", he added. 

Talks also focused on the means to develop bilateral relations and the role that Morocco plays in the Maghreb region in the areas of security and stability, thanks to the development process initiated by HM King Mohammed VI, he said.

The Moroccan delegation met with Michael Tetzschner, First Vice Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence at the Norwegian Parliament, Ingjerd Schou, Norwegian MP and member of this committee, and Vebjorn Dysvik, Deputy Director General of the Department of Regional Affairs at the Norwegian ministry of Foreign Affairs.
