The Moroccan autonomy initiative is a durable solution to the conflict over the Sahara, said, on Wednesday in Rabat, vice-speaker of the Czech Senate Jiří Oberfalzer.

The autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco will undoubtedly provide a durable solution to the artificial conflict over the Sahara, said Oberfalzer in a statement to the press after his meeting with Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Mounia Boucetta.

The Czech Republic supports a peaceful, realistic and durable solution to the dispute over the Sahara under the UN process, he said.

During the meeting, the emphasis was laid on cooperation in the political field, particularly within the European Union (EU) and the UN, and investment opportunities between the two countries, he added.

The Moroccan-Czech relations are on the right track, he said, calling for further promoting economic trade and boosting bilateral relations to achieve a strategic partnership.

For her part, Boucetta highlighted the excellent relations between Morocco and the Czech Republic politically, economically and at the parliamentary level.

The important role played by Morocco at the African level, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, was also at the heart of talks, she said, noting that the Morocco-Czech partnership will pave the way for a tripartite cooperation.

"We also discussed the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco, which is in line with the UN resolutions to find a pragmatic, realistic and lasting solution to the conflict over the Sahara," she said.

On this occasion, the Czech party expressed its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative which represents a "real" and "credible" solution to this conflict, she underlined.
